The Listening Program

Well we are at the halfway point of completing The Listening Program. It is just one more therapy to add to our list that we’ve done. I’m excited to see the results that this therapy will harvest. But before I go any further let me explain what the program is even about.

The Listening   Program’s is composed of a series of classical musical along with different nature sounds. It is designed to stimulate and exercise the different   functions of the auditory processing system.

The reason we are doing The Listening Program is to help my son not only with his auditory processing but to help him with his noise sensitivities, auditory cohesion, attention, energy and anxiety. These are just some of the benefits we hope to gain.

This therapy is based upon  the work of Dr. Alfred A Tomatis who was a French Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist who developed what is known as “The Tomatis Program”. The Listening Program uses a more simplified protocol but the same general theory. The Tomatis Program is much more intense and much more expensive. Maybe in the future we may find a way to partake in that program too. But for now The Listening Porgram is the next best thing and actually is good to be used as a primer prior to doing Tomatis anyway.

My son is doing the program with an occupational therapist along with vestibular input and some fine motor activities.  But on a few occasions we’ve done the program at home because you can’t miss more then two days in a school week and we’ve already had some holidays so therefore we took the program and equipment home.

Below is a chart that actually shows what the frequency sounds actually target. It is interesting stuff!
